My intention was never to start a photographic business, I just loved photography and wanted to learn more, I crave that next great picture, it is an elusive dream, we are our own worst critics, so we just keep going.
I had an opportunity to showcase some of my artwork in a gallery, about an hour from my home, the condition was that I had to have an ABN for insurance purposes, so I thought if I had to have that, why not go all the way and try a small business.
I worked hard, pulled a lot of hair out and got more grey hairs than I wanted, not being business minded and not really wanting to be made it a struggle, I definitely have no interest in taking portraits or photographing people, I just don't like that kind of photography, for me photography is about escapism, seclusion and becoming one with the environment.
After 4 years of promoting, word of mouth and a little luck, I had made enough money to update all my gear, I bought a new camera body, and all the lenses that I wanted, once I got the favourite lens of all, the only one I could afford, the Tamron 150-600mm for my birds and wildlife, that is when everything dried up, I sold no more, the doors were shut!
It came time to renew the business name, so I let it go.
Ever since I made that decision, my photography has improved so much, there is no more pressure, I am so addicted and in love with what I do, I love to share creation and inspire others, make people smile, and yes I still sell on demand, but it's not my focus now and now I actually feel successful!!!!
