I love the birds in my back yard!
About a year ago now, my husband had an injury, one that has just happened over time and now he needs my help to do simple little things; it restricted me a little bit on how early I could go out, but that's what you do when you love someone.
So, I got inspired from an article one day and decided if I couldn't get out to take bird pics for a while, I'd get the birds to come to me.
I built a bird bath out of old pot plants and drainers, my husband had already built an ornamental well, we then bought a windmill, we are country folk, we love windmills!!!!!
I started putting fresh meat out for the birds, I didn't want to feed them rubbish, as it is not good for them.
So now, we are onto our second generation of Magpies, they go first, followed by the Butcherbirds, then the Minors, once a year in breeding season the Lorikeets come in.
We might not get the rare birds, but we don't too bad for being 14 kms out of the centre of Brisbane City.
Our home is surrounded by gums on both sides in our estate, you would not realise how close to the city we are, I love it.
